Although LulzSec is at least partially operating under hacktivist motives, it is unclear what really prompted the latest wave of attacks. A popular post on Reddit urges users who had previously supported the group to stop doing so. The post claims the group's goal is to "attack first, point fingers, humiliate and threaten customers, ddos innocent websites and corporations that have done nothing wrong, all in the name of 'lulz.' In reality, it's a giant ploy for attention and nothing more."

If the group's goal was to attract attention, it definitely succeeded. LulzSec, together with Anonymous, another hacker group that recently took down a government website in Turkey (and led to the subsequent arrest of 32 alleged hackers by the Turkish authorities), had been filling headlines in recent months.

The question is: Where do the hacktivist motives end, and where does chaos begin?
