Symbian doesn't have much more to lose, now holding only 1.8% of the market. Microsoft can take comfort in that it's share only dropped from 5.8% to 5.7%, while the first Windows Phone 7-based Nokia handsets are yet to hit stores. RIM's drop from 24.7% to 19.7% is much more dire, showing that BlackBerry OS currently doesn't have what it takes to compete against modern Android and iOS-based smartphones.

On the manufacturer front, Apple has experienced the largest growth with a 1.1% increase in total U.S. mobile subscribers, solidifying its fourth place on the list. Samsung has also done well, increasing by 0.5% to 25.3%, holding onto its first place.
