Clearly, some of those tweets resonated more than others. The @breakingnews account saw its original Jobs alert retweeted 11,000 times -- more than any other tweet in its history.
And Storify, a service that lets you collect tweets and other forms of media in a single embedded stream, just released a list of the 10 tweets that have been most quoted by its users. Not surprisingly, Bill Gates and Barack Obama top the list -- but there are a few surprises in there, such as sports reporter Darren Rovell and rapper Snoop Dogg.
Check it out, and let us know in the comments what tweets you found affecting and inspirational.
UPDATE: Twitter says it saw a rate of 6,049 tweets per second, starting yesterday at 5pm Pacific time -- not quite a record, but certainly the greatest response the service has seen to the death of a celebrity.
