Yahoo brought the wrath of Twitter on Monday, when it filed a complaint against Facebook alleging the latter violated 10 patents relating to messaging, news feed generation, social commenting advertising display, preventing click fraud and privacy controls.
Not surprisingly, critics were quick to point out that such patent trolling smacks of desperation, particularly from a company that has been losing revenues and market share, as Yahoo has. However, others noted that the suit could really hurt Facebook's IPO prospects.
