Attention Marketers: Back-to-School Season Has Already Started [INFOGRAPHIC]

By now, we're used to seeing back-to-school campaigns hit in early July, but late March?

Research by Gen Y-focused marketing agency Mr. Youth contends that conversations about the 2012-2013 school year are already happening in social media. If marketers don't get in on these discussions, they may be missing out.

Why so early? Simple: Most colleges send out their acceptance letters in March. This naturally prompts a flood of social media conversation about the upcoming school year. Such chatter appears to hit a fever pitch in April and May and then ebb a bit in the summer months before resuming in August. That resurgence in conversation has doubtlessly convinced many marketers that August is the best time to target prospective college freshmen, but Mr. Youth would like to re-educate marketers on this subject. In fact, by the time marketers start targeting Gen Yers with back-to-school messages, 70% of the Facebook conversation on the subject has already been concluded.
