Patti Hart (pictured), whose own background was also called into question, will "not stand for reelection" at Yahoo's next annual meeting, according to AllThingsD, which cites "sources close to the situation." The meeting is expected to take place in June. Yahoo reps could not be reached for comment.

Hart, the CEO of International Game Technology, is also being asked by the board of that company to remove herself from Yahoo, according to the report.

If Hart steps down, she will be the first casualty in shareholder Third Point's conflict with Thompson, which launched an internal probe after discovering Thompson had misrepresented his degree from Stonehill College.

Thompson had claimed he graduated with a degree in accounting and computer science in 1978. However, the college confirmed that his degree was actually in accounting and the school didn't offer a computer science degree until 1983.

Third Point also accused Hart of misrepresenting her degree from Illinois State University as one in marketing and economics although she actually got a degree in business administration.

Dan Loeb, CEO of Third Point, sent the letter amid a proxy fight between the company and Yahoo. The row began in late March after Yahoo named three directors to its board after failing to reach a compromise with Third Point, which had recommended its own list of nominees.
