Nintendo Announces 23 Wii U Titles, Netflix and Hulu Plus Support

At E3 2012, Nintendo just announced that the Wii U the system will support two Wii U Game Pads, as well as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Video and YouTube.

On Sunday, Nintendo showed off its Wii U controller and its new social gaming network Miiverse at a pre-E3 presentation.

The presentation focused primarily on games that are headed to the console, rather than the hardware itself. Nintendo urged interested users to check out its E3 website for more detailed information about how the console operates.

“You'll see 23 Wii U titles on stage today,” Reggie Fil-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo said at the beginning of the presentation. “That's only a small part of Wii U and 3DS titles playable in LA this week.” Nintendo will be holding a separate event for the 3DS Wednesday evening.

Nintendo showcased a number of first-party titles -- including a brand new version of Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers UBatman Arkham City, with brand new features designed specifically for the Wii U.

“It's our pleasure to work with Nintendo so closely on the launch of the Wii U, ” Martin Tremblay, President of Warner Brothers Entertainment said. “We work to create games for every type of player.” Warner Brothers will also be launching Scribble Nauts Unlimited for the Wii U.

Nintendo is also updating the Wii Fit fitness peripheral with Wii Fit U, incorporating the Wii U Game Pad into gameplay with the Wii Fit. It also showed off a singing game aptly called Sing, which uses the Wii U controller to display lyrics while you sing with the game karaoke-style.

Titles headed to the Wii U include:

Pikmin 3

Super Mario Brothers U

Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition

Scribble Nauts Unlimited

Darksiders II

Mass Effect 3

Tank! Tank! Tank!

Tekken Tag Tournament 2

Trine 2: Director's Cut

Ninja Gaiden 3

Aliens Colonial Marines

Sing (working title)

LEGO City

Just Dance 4

Zombie U

Assassins Creed III

Rabbids Land

YourShape

Rayman Legends

Sports Connection

Avengers: Battle for Earth

NintendoLand

The presentation -- which was heavy on concept-videos and had very few hands-on demos (hopefully titles will be playable on the E3 show floor) -- lacked one important bit of information: Release date. It appears that Nintendo is still targeting a 2012 release date for the Wii U but more concrete data was not shared with the E3 crowd.
