In a partnership with NBCUniversal, Shazam will encourage viewers to use its free mobile app to see event schedules, medal counts, athletes' bios, news and photos, as well as to vote in polls, participate in social media discussions and download NBC Olympics apps. Shazam will be featured on several NBC stations, including NBC, MSNBC, NBCSN, Bravo and CNBC.
Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher says this initiative "marks an exciting milestone for Shazam for TV" and the company is excited to give viewers "an even more engaging and interactive social experience."
You can begin using Shazam during the July 27 opening ceremony and continue through the Aug. 12 closing ceremony.
Shazam will get more exposure than it did during the Super Bowl and Grammy Awards, as people across the globe tune in for the Olympics. The 2008 Beijing Olympics attracted a record 214 million viewers in the U.S. alone, and that number has potential to increase significantly because more video streaming options are available this year.
Separately, Olympics coverage will be shown in 3D for UK viewers and livestreamed on YouTube in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Facebook launched an Olympics hub, with links to athletes, teams and sports.
