Getaround is an hourly car-sharing service with 10,000 cars currently on the road. Co-founder Jessica Scorpio approaches car sharing from a problem-solving perspective. “We’re solving a problem that we call car overpopulation," she explains. "There’s 1 billion cars on the planet and 250 million cars in the U.S. that sit idle 92% of the time.”

In a world where we worry about over-fishing and recycling, why don’t we take a look under our hood and realize that we are under-sharing? Not only can you make a buck while sharing your car, but you'll also score some major eco-cred.

"When people switch from car ownership to car sharing, they reduce their vehicle miles traveled by 44%, and that is a reduction of 40% in their greenhouse gas footprint," Scorpio points out. This is one of biggest components of people’s emissions.

“Our goal is to make Getaround a global mobility company,” says Scorpio, who used her political background to get car-sharing laws passed in California, Oregon and Washington.
