Twitter users upset with Ann Romney's comments generally fell into one of two categories: those that believe the Romney family should release tax records because of their extraordinary wealth, and those those took offense to the phrase "you people," which has historically been used with an air of racism.
Others rushed to Ann Romney's defense, arguing the family should not have to release any more financial records and refuting claims that the "you people" phrase was intended as a hurtful comment.
Mitt Romney's refusal to release additional tax records has become a talking point of the Obama campaign, which argues that Romney should be more transparent about his wealth to allow voters a better understanding of the Republican candidate. Recent reports have alleged that Romney was involved with Bain Capital longer than he has previously admitted, and that he (legally) kept funds in offshore tax havens.
