LG has announced the availability of its first 84-inch LCD TV with support for 4K or 3,840 by 2,160 pixel resolution.
The TV also boasts LG's Cinema 3D technology, as well as "3D sound" through integrated 2.2 channel speakers.
4K, whose name comes from the horizontal pixel resolution of about 4,000 (several formats are considered to be 4K, from 3,840×2,160 to 4,096×3,112 pixels), is a digital cinematography standard, expected to one day become the standard for home viewing as well.
This has not happened yet -- 4K content is scarce, though with the recent availability of relatively affordable cameras that can capture movies in ultra-high resolutions, this will likely change soon.
