NBC Steps Onto More Popular Social Networks

Keeping pace with social TV trends on the web, NBC has expanded its social presence further than just Facebook and Twitter, putting the network's footprint on Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram for each show.

NBC wants to be where viewers are already congregating and create content customized for how users engage with those social networks, NBC tells Mashable.

The New Normal's Pinterest page, for example (see below), gives fans a visual glimpse of the cast members and behind-the-scenes action. The page also has topical Pin Boards that look at subjects not directly related to the show such as "Redefining Family" and "Famous Families." One board will post the show's new weekly GetGlue sticker. Meanwhile, each show's Tumblr page will showcase memes, GIFs and other media.

The Second-Screen Plan for Real-Time Engagement

NBC's second-screen push on iPad and desktop, NBC Live, is in place not only to enhance the viewer's experience but also to drive live viewing. Here are the experience's features for The Office, for example:

For The Voice season three, NBC also rebranded its popular 5th Coach Facebook app into the The Voice Live experience, a more interactive second-screen platform, to fall more in line with the overall NBC Live strategy.

The experience focuses on four core pillars that NBC often touts: talk, watch, play and vote. The Voice Live app, which comes out during the live voting rounds, for Facebook, NBC.com and tablet allows viewers to chat online, participate in question-and-answer sessions, watch video highlights organized by what's popular on Twitter and play a fantasy football-like game based on a points system.

Previously in season two, The Voice introduced Facebook voting, giving fans another way to vote online in addition to voting at NBC.com, the NBC Live app and the NBC app. That piggybacked on the first season when the show became the first televised singing competition in the U.S. to allow iTunes sales to count as votes.

The refined experience should help build on the previous season's social success, which amounted to 145 worldwide Twitter trending topics, 13% rise for online's vote share and 38% jump in votes per unique user.
