His feedback, it's fair to say, is not positive.
Johnson used Twitter late Wednesday morning to share these thoughts with his more than 1 million followers:
The reason I haven't tweeted in 2 days is because I've been mourning Phil Jackson not being hired as the Lakers head coach.— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) November 14, 2012
My mother always taught me that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) November 14, 2012
The first post immediately sent the social sports world into a minor tizzy, gaining more than 3,600 retweets.
The Lakers were reportedly all set to hire Jackson -- who's won 11 championships as a coach, including five with Lakers between 2000 and 2010 -- this week but then unexpectedly agreed to terms with D'Antoni late Sunday night. When the Lakers fired Brown last week after a terrible start to the season, Johnson took to Twitter to broadcast his support for Jackson:
I'd love to see Phil Jackson or Brian Shaw.Wish Pat Riley was available.— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) November 9, 2012
Do you think Magic was right to criticize the Lakers hiring D'Antoni on Twitter, or should he have kept his digital mouth shut? Give us your take in the comments.
