Microsoft has revealed key details about its Surface with Windows 8 Pro device -- including price, specs and the month you can buy one.

The Surface with Windows 8 Pro looks a lot like the Surface RT tablet but under the hood, things are very different.

Microsoft's Surface RT tablet runs on an ARM-based processor. That means it's not compatible with software built for Intel processors. The Surface with Windows 8 Pro will sport an Intel Core i5 processor, which means users can run applications such as Photoshop, QuickBooks and more.

Other specs:

10.6-inch display running at 1920x1080 full HD resolution

4GB of RAM

Bluetooth 4.0

Wi-Fi

Two 720p cameras, front and rear

Includes a full-size USB 3.0 port

Supports Mini DisplayPort to power an external display with a resolution of 2560x1440 (which means you can use an Apple Thunderbolt Display with it)

It will pen input and come with a special Surface pen

The Surface with Windows 8 Pro will come in two storage capacities -- 64GB and 128GB. The 64GB version will sell for $899. The 128GB version will sell for $999.

Given the specs of the device, that price is very competitive. It clocks in below similar Ultrabooks, as well as Apple's 13" MacBook Air.

So when will the Surface with Windows 8 Pro be available? Microsoft didn't give an exact release date, but the company says users can buy the device in January.
