Netflix: 'House of Cards' Is Our Most Popular Show Right Now

Netflix's original series starring Kevin Spacey, House of Cards, is the most-viewed show on Netflix right now in all of the countries it operates in, Ted Sarandos, chief content officer and vice president of content at Netflix, revealed on stage at AllThingsD's D: Dive Into Media conference on Tuesday.

The show, which was released on Feb. 1 and rumored to cost as much as $78 million to produce, is the most-viewed by the number of viewers and total hours viewed, Sarandos said.

So how many people have watched it, exactly? Sarandos declined to say, noting that the figures aren't comparable to traditional TV ratings and (because Netflix doesn't run advertising) aren't monetizable, anyway.

House of Cards released all 13 hour-long episodes from its first season simultaneously. "There's no extra points for binge watching, but we want to give the consumer that choice," Sarandos said.

Netflix has already agreed to produce 13 more episodes, filming for which will begin in the spring, 26 episodes; filming will begin on the second half in the spring.
