Hackers Issue Zombie Apocalypse Alert on TV

What would you do if your local television station suddenly broadcast a warning about the impending zombie apocalypse? That's exactly what happened to viewers of Montana's KRTV after hackers breached network security and transmitted a fake Emergency Alert System notice.

The "bodies of the dead are rising from their graves" and "attacking the living," said a man's voice that played following an alert sound. A recording of the fake alert is included above.

Several viewers actually called their local police department to see if the zombie rumors had any meat to them, reported the BBC.

KRTV posted the following statement on its website following the incident:

"Someone apparently hacked into the Emergency Alert System and announced on KRTV and the CW that there was an emergency in several Montana counties."

"This message did not originate from KRTV, and there is no emergency."
