By now, we're all well versed in the "Harlem Shake" meme, which has gone massively viral over the past couple weeks. So it's actually kind of a wonder nobody though of this sooner: taking a camera uptown and seeing what actual Harlemites think of the Internet sensation that takes its name -- but not moves -- from a decades-old dance.
Harlem's verdict? Not impressed.
"That's not the Harlem Shake at all," says one man. "That's humpin', and that's not the Harlem Shake."
"They're dry-humping air," says a woman.
But it's a teenage boy who has perhaps the best quote of all: "People on West Fourth Street would do that. Nobody in Harlem would do that."
