'Hunger Games' Releases Character Posters on Instagram

Lionsgate's latest strategy for releasing character posters for the second installment of the Hunger Games series, Catching Fire, makes you hope the odds are ever in your favor.

The studio is using the "Capitol Couture" Instagram account to tease fans with portraits of empty chairs and asking people to guess which character will fill the seat. The photo captions hint at the characters' personalities.

The promotional Instagram account is dedicated to the fashion of Panem's celebrites -- the fictional country where the Hunger Games take place. The pictures of the chairs with their character occupants are later released on various entertainment news sites. The Capitol Couture website houses a countdown clock so fans know how long they must wait for answers.

The guessing games began last week when the studio relaunched the Capitol Couture website featuring a new emblem. Visitors to the revamped site had to trace the emblem with a mouse (or finger on iPads and mobile) to get access the new content. Once the site was unlocked, users could see the first chair portrait and click through to the new Instagram account.

No mention yet if the campaign will include portraits of Katniss Everdeen or Peeta Mellark -- played by Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson respectively. Considering the two are from District 12 and not the Capitol, it doesn't seem appropriate. But the pair did just manage to win the Hunger Games, so the gamemakers should make an exception for the "girl on fire" and her beau.

But Katniss and Peeta haven't been completely left out of promoting the 75th annual Hunger Games (and subsequently the Catching Fire film). Lionsgate released these sleek shots of the duo last month.

The studio also previously released an animated movie poster with the slogan "every revolution begins with a spark" and the beloved "Mockingjay."
