Yahoo Brings Back 5 Employees by Acquiring Their Startup

Yahoo has acquired Jybe, a mobile-first startup that, for the last two years, has focused on helping users discover things to do and places to eat via personalized recommendations. In doing so, Yahoo welcomes the five-person team behind Jybe, all of whom are former Yahoo employees, including Arnab Bhattacharjee, the former vice president of Yahoo Search.

At Yahoo, the Jybe team will work across multiple products to improve targeting and personalization, Yahoo said in a statement.

Jybe's service will be shutting down, but promises to release a tool that will allow existing users to download their data, the team said in a note posted to Jybe's website.

Jybe is the latest in a string of acquisitions Yahoo has made in the mobile and recommendations space since Marissa Mayer became CEO last July, beginning with NYC-based Stamped in October 2012.
