Twitter Updates Mobile Apps to Support New Twitter Cards

Twitter launched an updated version of its apps for Android and iPhone Wednesday, adding, amongst other features, support for the new Twitter Cards it announced at a developer event Tuesday evening.

New Card options bring additional types of content -- specifically, app, product information, and photo galleries -- within the expanded portion of tweets.

An App Card, for instance, will show an image from an app and a description of that app, as well as the app’s price and rating directly from the App Store or Google Play. Product Cards show an item and its description, with two other fields that can be customized by developers with additional information such as a price or rating for that item.

Twitter also now supports mobile app deep-linking, so if someone tweets something from an app, you have the option to view that content from directly within the app, or download the app onto your phone directly from the tweet.

The Android version of Twitter saw a few more updates: It now has wider, taller timelines that fill the screen, and a flat navigation bar. Android users can swipe a finger across the screen to navigate between tabs. When doing a search, Twitter will provide username and hashtag suggestions as you type, making that process a little easier.

The updates will be rolling out to users over the next few days.
