Skitch Update Brings New Features and Faster Performance

Evernote launched an update to Skitch for Mac and iOS Thursday, adding a number of new PDF features to the desktop and mobile versions of the app, as well as new stamps and a plain text option for filling out forms.

Annotating PDF documents involves simply dragging a document onto Skitch, and then annotating items that need to be changed using shapes, arrows and text. A Highlighter feature lets you highlight a particular section of text you think needs a little work, and a text feature enables you to leave notes in the margin for your recipient.

All of your edits are compiled together into a summary page that is attached to the front of your edited document, enabling your recipient to see an overview of your notes at a glance.

In addition to PDF annotation, Skitch added Stamps in version 2.5 of the app. Stamps can be added to a document or image as is -- for instance you might place a heart stamp to indicate something you love – and can also be customized with text to further explain why you love, hate, or have a question about something.

When filling out forms using Skitch, a new Plain Text option lets you type in a way that doesn’t stand out as much as Skitch’s traditional font might from the background.

Beyond just new features, Skitch also got a bit of an overhaul under the hood Thursday to help the app run more smoothly, no matter what you happen to be using it for.

Evernote acquired Skitch in August of 2011. After its acquisition, the company made the app free, and added an Android version. In September of 2012 the app became available for the iPhone for the first time.

PDF annotation is an Evernote Premium feature. Anyone with an Evernote account can try the feature out for free to 30 days.

You can download the updated version of Skitch now from iTunes and the Mac App Store.
