iBooks and Apple Maps Come to the Mac

Apple announced that some key iOS apps would be coming to the Mac in OS X 10.9 Mavericks: Apple Maps and iBooks. Both are stand-alone apps that will be downloadable from the Mac App Store.

In Maps, features such as Flyover and Yelp integration are included. It also integrates with the Calendar, sending you an alert for when you need to leave to get to a destination. You can also save locations as bookmarks in Safari.

The Mac version of iBooks gets you access to all books, lets you adjust type and font size, and goes into a night mode that is relaxing for the eyes. iBooks textbooks are also interactive, so you can see videos, pinch into a table of contents and select chapters via a scroll feature at the bottom of the program. You can also add notes to the text and create study cards.

Of course, both Mac apps are linked to their iOS counterparts, so your travel routes and notes to will appear on iPhones and iPads linked to the same Apple account. Previews of both apps are available Monday.
