Yahoo's Acquisition of Tumblr Officially Closes

Yahoo agreed to acquire Tumblr last month for $1.1 billion, nearly all of it in cash. On Thursday, Mayer announced -- on Tumblr -- that the deal has passed regulatory approval procedures and is now complete.

To commemorate the close, Yahoo has given its corporate Tumblr a bit of a facelift, and added separate Tumblrs for several of its divisions, including Flickr and Search, to share product updates with Tumblr's community.

There was also, of course, a celebratory GIF:

Since the deal was announced, several high-profile Tumblr employees, including creative director Jacob Bijani and media evangelist Mark Coatney, have announced their plans to leave the company.

Yahoo's acquisition spree hasn't come to an end. Since agreeing to purchase Tumblr, the company has acquired a range of mobile-first startups, including gaming platform PlayerScale and GhostBird Software. Yahoo is also rumored to be in serious discussions with video app maker Qwiki and contact app developer Xobni.
