If you've ever experienced a moment of movie deja vu when watching a new release, but you're sure you heard that line before, it's probably not a sign of new-found magical powers. (Sorry to disappoint.)

Hollywood has recycled troupes and phrases for decades. The same line can pop up in Austin Powers and Toy Story.

Looking at clichés over genre and time can teach us a few things about film, like the value of a powerful delivery. And more importantly, how you will hear the exact same thunk when a character is hit by a bus, no matter if the flick is a slapstick comedy or a grave drama.
