In case you didn't know already, everything you say or do on the Internet can be held against you. This especially holds true for politicians, whose deleted tweets live on forever in the Politwoops archives.
The project, run by the Sunlight Foundation, ensures politicians' Twitter words never go forgotten. Politwoops treats typos and tastelessness exactly alike: both are stored in the name of government openness and transparency.

As you'd probably imagine, the Politwoops collection of deleted tweets runs deep. Though you can search for people or words, and sort by state, office and political party, it will still take some time to discover real gems or gaffes. We took the time to sort through hundreds of results, to bring you the most gawk-worthy deleted tweets from Politwoops.
Scroll through the list below to read some statements politicians surely wished they never typed. You may notice some repeat offenders -- that's no coincidence. Certain politicians are far more send button-happy than they should be.
