Amazon to Hire 70,000 Full-Time Workers for the Holidays

Amazon is about to go on a massive hiring spree ahead of the holiday season.

The ecommerce giant announced Tuesday that it plans to hire 70,000 full-time workers for its fulfillment centers to keep up with increased demand during the holidays. Amazon says that represents a 40% increase from last year's seasonal hiring, suggesting that the company is optimistic about growing consumer demand this year.

While the jobs are seasonal, Amazon says that "thousands" of seasonal employees last year were brought on as full-time employees year round.

Amazon revealed in its last earnings report that it was closing in on 100,000 full-time employees, about twice the number of people that Google employs and triple Amazon's staff size just three years earlier.
