Report: Lenovo Interested in Buying Parts of BlackBerry

Lenovo is examining BlackBerry's books, but it isn't interested in buying the whole company, just parts of it, according to Reuters.

The report, which hit the wire Thursday night, is at odds with an earlier Wall Street Journal article that stated Lenovo was considering a bid for the whole company. Reps from Lenovo and BlackBerry could not be reached for comment on the reports.

Assuming the reports are accurate, Lenovo would join a queue of companies including SAP, Cisco Systems and Samsung that are said to be interested in purchasing components of the beleaguered BlackBerry. BlackBerry has until Nov. 4 to consider other proposals while suitor Fairfax Holdings tries to obtain financing.

This isn't the first time Lenovo has been linked with BlackBerry. In January, Chief Financial Officer Wong Wai Ming told Bloomberg that it was considering purchasing the company (then known as Research In Motion), along with "many others."

Lenovo's trial balloon didn't go over well with investors. The company lost about $270 million off its market capitalization after the news hit.
