Crazy Crayon Carvings Bring Pop Culture to Life

You've watched Star Wars countless times, but you've never seen Darth Vader like this before.

Where most people just see a crayon, Hoang Tran sees a canvas. The 28-year-old computer animation student carves pop culture imagery into crayons, growing his craft from a hobby to a business.

Using precise dental tools, Tran has carved characters and icons from several popular TV shows and movies, including Star Wars, Adventure Time and Game of Thrones. He also takes custom orders, allowing customers to request specific images in crayon form.

"I like taking an ordinary object that's usually overlooked and trying to elevate it a little higher," says Tran.

You can find more examples of Tran's work on his Tumblr, or you can purchase a crayon of your own at his Etsy store.
