The trailer for Marvel's sci-fi movie Guardians of the Galaxy debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and it basically pokes fun at the superhero genre, with a digital middle finger to boot.

The 150-second video introduces the film's gang of misfit heroes, giving viewers much more substance than the previously released 15-second teaser.

The comic-based comedic action flick stars Parks and Recreation's Chris Pratt as space adventurer Peter Quill, who is wanted for the theft of an elusive orb. Funny man John C. Reilly will play Rhomann Dey, a Nova Corps officer holding Quill captive for minor crimes.

In the trailer, Quill flips off Dey while in captivity:

Quill's fellow guardians include Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper; Groot, a tree-like humanoid voiced by Vin Diesel; Gamora, a mystical and destructive character played by Zoe Saldana; and Drax the Destroyer, a revenge-seeker played by Dave Bautista. Together, they're attempting to protect the galaxy from the villain Ronan (Lee Pace).

Guardians of the Galaxy, which first appeared as a story in the comic book Marvel Super-Heroes in Issue 18 in January 1969, is directed by James Gunn and produced by Kevin Feige.

The movie will arrive in theaters on Aug. 1.
