Tech startups often have the oddest of beginnings -- especially when the people involved are monumentally odd. That appears to be the idea behind Silicon Valley, a new HBO series from Mike Judge about startup culture. HBO broadcast the full trailer for the series on Sunday night.

The show follows an introverted computer programmer named Richard who works for Hooli, a Silicon Valley tech company. Richard lives in "Hacker Hostel," a startup incubator where he's constantly surrounded by brilliant social misfits, but hey -- at least the dotcom millionaire who runs the place lets them stay there for free.

When both a billionaire venture capitalist and a Hooli executive realize that Richard's work is extremely valuable, a bidding war ensues. What happens to Richard and his friends after that is the subject of the eight-episode series.

Judge, the man who created Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill, based Silicon Valley in part on his experiences at a tech startup in the late 1980s -- subject material that also informed his cult hit movie, Office Space. The series stars Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Zach Woods and Kumail Nanjiani.

Silicon Valley premieres April 6 on HBO.
