Square has acquired BookFresh, an online appointment booking service, the two companies announced Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BookFresh launched in mid-2009 to provide self-service software to small businesses across a broad range of industries -- not just restaurants -- to help schedule appointments. BookFresh will continue to offer its software. The startup says its products will operate separately from Square's "for the time being."

In a blog post, Square framed the acquisition as being part of its effort to help merchants beyond just accepting payments. "Sellers of all sizes want to grow their business, which is why we’re constantly working to provide them with simple, accessible, affordable tools that help them do so," Gokul Rajaram, product engineering lead at Square, wrote in the post.
