Prepare to relive your childhood, millennials. The first official trailer for the upcoming movie The Giver was released Wednesday.

The movie is based on the bestselling 1993 young adult novel by Lois Lowry that follows a boy named Jonas (Brenton Thwaites) through 12 years of his life in a future Utopian society that is slowly revealed to be anything but ideal.

Jonas is assigned the role of The Receiver of Memory, or the only person who can remember what life was like before the Sameness took over. As Jonas receives these memories from the elder receiver a.k.a. The Giver (Jeff Bridges), he is made aware of the dark secrets of his fragile society.

The movie has already received some criticism for ignoring the fact that the first half of the book is portrayed in black and white. However, that could be overlooked with an all-star cast of Meryl Streep as an evil Chief Elder, Alexander Skarsgard and Katie Holmes as Jonas' parents and Taylor Swift as the failed Receiver of Memory, Rosemary.

Philip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector) directed the film, scheduled to arrive in theaters Aug. 15.
