Cosmos finished its third episode Sunday night, and host Neil deGrasse Tyson showed viewers how a better understanding of gravity, comets and the solar system helped humans learn more about the stars -- and about science itself.

Viewers also learned that astronomer Edmond Halley did not actually discover his namesake comet, and that our Milky Way galaxy will run into the neighboring Andromeda galaxy in about 4 billion years. Don't worry, though -- the spaces between all the stars and planets are so great, that there shouldn't be any actual collisions.

Cosmos is a revamped version of astronomer Carl Sagan's 1980s series by the same name, and aims to teach and inspire viewers about the universe. Host Tyson is an astrophysicist and director of the New York-based Hayden Planetarium. The show is slated for one season of 13 episodes, and airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Fox. It is produced by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.

NASA released photos via Twitter to complement Cosmos' premiere on March 9, and the agency published more to coincide with episode 3 on Sunday night. Check them out, below.
