A 16-year-old boy survived a flight from San Jose, Calif. to Maui, Hawaii while stowed away in the wheel well of the jet on Sunday.

The boy emerged from the flight confused but unharmed, despite lack of oxygen and extremely low temperatures at 38,000 feet.

"He was unconscious for the lion's share of the flight," FBI spokesman Tom Simon told the Associated Press. "Doesn't even remember the flight [...] It's amazing he survived that."

After the flight had arrived, airline personnel noticed the boy and notified security, according to Hawaiian Airlines spokeswoman Alison Croyle.

The boy, who lives in Santa Clara, Calif., snuck onto the plane after running from his family due to an argument. He was not charged with a crime.

In a similar case from 2004, a man survived a 1,500 mile flight from Newark to Dallas, locked in a wooden crate.
