Time to shake off the dust and get back to catching 'em all.
On Wednesday, Nintendo announced two new Pokémon titles -- Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire -- that will be released in November.
The two new titles will be remakes of past Pokémon versions: Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, which were released in 2003 and instant fan-favorites on the Gameboy Advance. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will follow a continued trend of remaking and updating past Pokémon versions on newer systems for Nintendo. The company released Pokémon Firered and Leafgreen -- updated versions of the classic Red and Blue versions that started the whole phenomenon -- in 2004 and Pokémon Heartgold and Soulsilver in 2010. That brought the Gold and Silver versions to the Nintendo DS.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will be the 23rd and 24th titles in the franchise, following Pokémon X and Y which were released in October 2013.
With the announcement of the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire versions, 2014 looks like a big year for Nintendo's most popular franchises. Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS is set for a release this summer and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will come out later in the year, marking an exciting time for fans of the Nintendo classic.
Still, critics wonder if Nintendo is simply rushing popular titles due to the company's reported losses. Nintendo announced on Wednesday that the company posted a $456 million (46.4 billion yen) operating loss for the fiscal year -- the third consecutive year the company has announced operating losses.
