Oculus VR isn’t sitting idle under Facebook’s wing — the virtual reality company announced Tuesday it has acquired Carbon Design.

The design firm works on medical and consumer products, including some very recognizable ones — Carbon worked on the Xbox 360 gamepad.

Peter Bristol, Carbon’s creative director, says virtual reality has finally arrived.

“From a design and engineering perspective, building the products that finally deliver consumer virtual reality is one of the most interesting and challenging problem sets ever,” he said in an announcement.

Carbon will be working from its design studio in Seattle; Oculus is based in Irvine, California, and has an R&D team in Redmond, Washington.

According to Oculus’ release, the two companies have been working on “multiple unannounced projects” for close to a year.

Oculus has yet to announce a release date for the first consumer version of its virtual reality headset.

Its Carbon Design acquisition, meanwhile, is expected to close by the end of summer.
