A new report claims that Apple has scheduled an iPhone event for Sept. 9.

If true, that would squash the most recent rumors that Apple might push its fall event, thought to be the announcement of the iPhone 6, back to October.

Tim Cook hinted at upcoming product releases during July's earnings call. News of the event was revealed by Recode, which had an early and accurate line on last year's fall Apple event as well.

The report also dashes other rumors that at least one version of Apple's supposedly larger iPhones would be delayed until sometime next year by claiming that both the 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions of the device, both running new A8 processors, will be revealed.

So, if you were thinking of picking up a new iPhone -- a reasonable proposition considering Apple's recent iPhone 5S push -- you might want to wait a few weeks.

UPDATE, August 5, 2:30 p.m. ET: In a separate report, citing sources "familiar with the matter," the Wall Street Journal has also pegged the date of Apple's iPhone announcement as Sept. 9.
