Two months after announcing it was changing its name to avoid confusion with the Islamic militant group ISIS (also known as the Islamic State or ISIL), Isis Wallet has unveiled its new name: Softcard.

"Together with a simple and flexible visual system, the inherent simplicity of Softcard gives it the potential to become a category defining name," Michael Abbott, CEO, wrote in a blog post on Tuesday. The new visual treatment is below:

Launched in 2010, Isis is a mobile payment venture backed by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express. Abbott in July acknowledged that the emergence of the Islamic State, was creating confusion in the marketplace.

"However coincidental, we have no interest in sharing a name with a group whose name has become synonymous with violence and our hearts go out to those who are suffering," he wrote. "As a company, we have made the decision to rebrand."

However, Softcard might present some challenges as well. There's a softball-scoring app of the same name on Google Play and the name and mission are close to Softbank, the Japanese conglomerate.
