BERLIN -- Remember Sony's lens-style cameras -- the snap-on ones that look like lenses and can be mounted on your smartphone? Sony didn't abandon the concept it launched in September 2013; rather, it just added two more cameras to its lineup.
The two new models are the ILCE-QX1 and the DSC-QX30. The QX1 has the same 20.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor as Sony's mirror-less interchangeable-lens cameras.

It's essentially an adapter with a sensor and a flash; you need to add one of Sony's E-mount lenses to take photos, but that means you get versatility previously unseen on any smartphone camera. Sony's lens-style cameras are separate (and relatively costly) cameras, so it's not fair to directly compare them to any smartphone camera.
The 20.4-megapixel DSC-QX30, on the other hand, has the 30x optical zoom Sony G Lens seen in the company's Cyber-shot models.
Finally, Sony also introduced copper and pink colored variants of its existing DSC-QX10.
The QX1 will be out in November for $400, and the QX30 will be out later this month for $350.
