Tesla is expected to announce plans tomorrow to build a Gigafactory in Nevada, a $4 billion to $5 billion project that's likely to employ up to 6,500.

A Tesla rep confirmed to Mashable that the company is planning a press conference about a "major economic development announcement" with Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval on Thursday in at 4 pm local time in Carson City, Nevada. The rep declined to comment on the substance of the announcement. Multiple reports say a Gigafactory is coming, though.

Tesla and Panasonic announced plans in July for a new factory, which would manufacture batteries for its vehicles. The company at the time was considering California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas as possible locations.

Tesla says the factory would provide two major operations: producing batteries for Panasonic’s operations and producing batteries for the packs Tesla uses in its vehicles.
