AMC wants The Walking Dead to stay alive for another season.

Days ahead of its season premiere, AMC renewed the zombie hit for season 6, the network announced Tuesday.

The decision does not come as a surprise, considering that Walking Dead has been the no. 1 show on TV in the all-important ratings 18 to 49 demographic for two years running.

What's more, the move comes as AMC mulls a Walking Dead companion series that was ordered to pilot last month, and will explore the effects of the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world.

Season 5 premieres Oct. 12 at 9 p.m.
