The New York City doctor who has tested positive for Ebola took an Uber ride Wednesday evening, the ride-share company announced on its blog.

Public health officials have said neither the Uber driver, nor the subsequent passengers are at risk, according to the blog post.

"We have communicated this to the driver, and the [New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene] medical team met with the driver in person, assuring him that he is not at risk. Our thoughts are with the patient and his loved ones," the blog states.

Uber contacted the Centers for Disease Control and the city's health department after confirming the driver provided a ride to Dr. Craig Spencer, who recently returned from treating Ebola patients with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea.

Mashable asked an Uber representative if the car and driver are still in service and if the vehicle has been cleaned since Spencer's ride, but the representative has yet to respond.

In addition to taking an Uber on Wednesday, Spencer, 33, also rode the subway system on the A, L and 1 lines and attended a bowling party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, that night, officials said.

During a press conference on Thursday evening, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stressed that residents should not be alarmed and that Ebola is difficult to contract.
