When Taylor Swift announced her upcoming global tour Monday, Shawn Mendes and Vance Joy -- the two relative newcomers who were tapped as the opening acts for select tour dates -- responded with emojis, naturally.
Mendes, whose first EP in July reached No. 1 on iTunes in 37 minutes, was discovered on Vine and subsequently signed by Island Records.
"I posted a six-second clip of me singing 'As Long As You Love Me' by Justin Bieber in August and it was an overnight sort of explosion," the 16-year-old Canadian-born musician told Mashable.

Swift fans are already well aware of Joy's breakout hit, "Riptide," as Swift covered it on BBC Radio 1. Joy, a 26-year-old former Australian football player, released his debut in September; it soared to No. 1 in Australia and peaked at No. 17 in the United States.
Swift's "1989 World Tour begins May 20, 2015, in North America. She'll then take her show to Europe and Australia. You can find the list of the more than 50 tour stops here.
