WARNING: This story contains spoilers from The Walking Dead's midseason finale. Do not read if you have not watched.

We knew something horrible was going to happen in Sunday night's midseason finale of The Walking Dead. We'd, frankly, be a little disappointed if everything turned out a-ok for everyone. (Boring.)

But even with these expectations for terrible events, we weren't quite ready for what transpired.

To recap: This was the episode where the gang was going break Beth and Carol out of Dawn's supermax hospital. And per Tyreese's plan, they staged an exchange -- two of Dawn's officers for Beth and Carol.

It all started off rocky. After Officer Lawson knocked out Sasha, Rick caught up with him, hit him with a car and then shot him in the head.

But after that hiccup, things seemed on track. On the outside, at least.

Inside the hospital, Beth and Dawn finally seemed to be understanding each other. Or so we were led to believe. At one point, Beth even helped Dawn by killing an officer who attacked her by kicking his butt down the elevator shaft.

Were they turning into buddies? Did one of them have ulterior motives? It wasn't clear. Until the end, that is.

During the exchange, all went well and Rick and Co. (complete with Carol and Beth) were on their way out of the double doors when Dawn stopped them. She wanted Noah, too.

Rick and Daryl immediately protested. Their terms had been set and he wasn't about to bargain for someone who belonged to neither party. Noah, not wanting to cause waves, surrendered himself. That's when Beth stepped up to have words with Dawn -- and stab her in the chest with medical scissors she'd hidden in her cast.

Everything went down hill from there.

Beth was shot in the head and then Daryl shot Dawn in retaliation. With bodies on the floor between the two groups, another female officer called an end to it all.

Watching Beth die was just heart wrenching, but worse was everyone's reactions. Daryl and Carol's crumpled faces, Sasha's mile-wide eyes, Rick's rage tears and, most of all, Maggie's scream as she saw Daryl carrying her sister's limp body out of the building just as she and the rest of the group arrived on the scene.

I'm not taking this all well -- and neither is Twitter. Here are ten people who understand what we're all going through after that episode.
