Active Facebook users often post stories and comments about current events, the movies they're seeing, their favorite song of the moment and so on. So it comes at no surprise that some of the most-discussed topics of 2014 are also reflected in Facebook's trending data for the year.

Facebook released on Tuesday its Year in Review ranking list that looks at who and what most captivated the social network.

To sum up 12 months into just a few categories, 2014 belonged to Beyonce (nudging out Pharrell and Taylor Swift), Game of Thrones, Frozen, LeBron James and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge -- the most viewed of the viral video trend went to George W. Bush.

Major news stories were popular topics on Facebook, too. According to the site, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil drove the most conversation than any other event in Facebook history and brought in much more mentions than the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Other big mentions (on a global scale) include the Ebola virus outbreak, elections in Brazil and the death of Robin Williams. And the most checked-in place of the year, according to Facebook, goes to Disney parks, such as Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Here's a full look at what got Facebook talking in 2014:
