LONDON -- Set aside some time on Jan. 5, because after a long wait Broadchurch is returning to television screens in the UK.

ITV teased the trailer on Twitter for almost nine hours, telling fans to tweet with the hashtag #BroadchurchReturns to unlock the trailer.

After trending for several hours in the UK, the trailer was finally released.

For everyone who tweeted #BroadchurchReturns today... ...get ready!— ITV (@ITV) December 11, 2014

Series one centred on detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller's (Olivia Colman) search for the murderer of an 11-year-old boy, Daniel Latimer, killed in a small, close-knit town in Dorset.

Not much is known about the plot for series two, but Tennant, Coleman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill will be back after an almost two-year hiatus. During that time, Tennant filmed an American adaptation for Fox, called Gracepoint, which wrapped up its first season Wednesday night.

New cast members Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Meera Syal, Eve Myles and James D'Arcy are also expected.

BBC America announced during the summer that it renewed Broadchurch for Season 2, but it has not said when it will air in the U.S.

Season 1 will be available from Friday on Netflix in the U.S..
