Facebook at Work launched to a limited audience on Wednesday, teasing the social network's much-anticipated entry into the enterprise space.

The new app for Facebook at Work is slated to begin appearing in the app stores for iOS and Android, but will only be open to companies that have joined Facebook's pilot program.

The platform will retain much of the current Facebook look and feel including the News Feed, groups, messaging and events. This makes sense as the appeal of Facebook at Work is engaging employees on a familiar platform that they already understand.

Facebook noted in a press release on the soft launch that the new enterprise platform will be entirely separate from personal accounts. Information put on Facebook at Work will not be accessible through personal profiles or to people outside of the company.

Facebook has been known to use an internal version of the social network for its employees.

There are no indications yet of the business model behind Facebook at Work. Mockups of the platform released by Facebook show no advertising. Facebook has not indicated if it will end up charging businesses for access.
