For everyone who made a resolution to travel more in the new year, there's no better time to start planning than now.

"Take a trip" is a popular resolution, so as millions of people plan their next trips, we wanted to know how Mashable's community will travel in 2015.

A total of 1,358 respondents in more than 40 countries took part in the survey, conducted with SurveyMonkey.

About 90% of respondents in our travel survey said they traveled for business or leisure (or both) in 2014. Of those who traveled, 92% took a leisure trip and 46% traveled for business.

In 2015, even more plan to travel: 92% of respondents said they are planning a trip -- and 89% plan to go somewhere they've never been before.

Even though an overwhelming majority of people said they travel a few times a year, about 53% of respondents said more disposable income would encourage them to travel more. The good news for respondents in the U.S. is that a strong dollar will go farther in Europe and around the globe.

Focus on connectivity

"Trip planning sources have shifted over the last several years," according to the U.S. Travel Association, "with social media and mobile devices being used more often." In 2009, the association found that just 2% of people used social networking sources to plan travel in 2009 -- and only 1% used their mobile device for trip planning.

But three years later, in 2012, 57% of respondents in a Temple University survey said they had referenced social platforms for travel information, and 51% of smartphone owners accessed trip planning resources on their devices. That quick growth has continued through this year, making online travel planning more default than exception.

In an Expedia survey last year, 94% of leisure travelers said they bring a mobile device along with them. Constant connectivity was reflected in Mashable's survey by the popularity of free Wi-Fi at hotels. For both business and leisure travelers, free Wi-Fi ranked high as the most desired amenity.

Free breakfast came in at an easy second for both types of travelers.
