Ratings for the Grammys this year were less than stellar. And Better Call Saul may be part of the reason it took such a hit.

AMC announced Monday that the series premiere of the Breaking Bad spinoff was the biggest series premiere in cable history among adults ages 18 to 49, drawing 4.4 million viewers in that key demo (3.4 rating) and 6.5 million viewers overall.

If anyone doubted the power of the TV catch-up culture, know this: The series premiere of Breaking Bad attracted 1.4 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in its demo.

Meanwhile, The Walking Dead returned down a bit from last year's midseason premiere -- 15.6 to 15.8 million viewers -- but still with an impressive 10.1 million adults 18-49.

AMC expects figures for both shows to rise after DVR playback is accounted for, adding The Walking Dead premiere is projected to exceed 20 million viewers.

The Talking Dead, which Chris Hardwick hosted after The Walking Dead, delivered 2.8 million viewers and 1.9 million adults 18-49.

“In a competitive environment that sometimes gets as much press as the shows themselves, it is gratifying to deliver programming that breaks through and reaches passionate audiences," AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement.
