Kanye West is creating a video game as a tribute to his late mother, the musician told a radio station during an extended interview Friday.

West's mother, Donda West, passed away in 2007 after multiple complications following elective plastic surgery. West wrote his single "Only One," released in late 2014, about a fictional conversation his mother might have had with his eight-month old daughter, North.

West spoke briefly about the game on New York station's WWPR-FM's "Breakfast Club" segment. The conversation can be heard at the 56-minute mark.

"The idea is my mother going through the gates of heaven. You've gotta bring her to the highest gates of heaven by holding her to the light."

West said he's been working on the game for about six months.

Video games have provided catharsis for their creators in the past, including serious games like That Dragon, Cancer, created by a father after his son battled -- and passed away from -- the disease. With Kanye's previous remarks about his mother's impact on his life, maybe the game and "Only One" can help provide him closure.

Or maybe it means he will find a whole new genre of award ceremony to interrupt.
